The Inter-Area match against the other Masters national teams and the English area teams has been fixed for 18 July 2021 and is to take place at the Coventry track.
Brett Davis will be selecting the men’s team and Daphne Marler the women’s team.
If you are not familiar with the competition, all the teams turn up each in their respective kit to battle for pride of place – and Wales has always acquitted itself well against the larger English clubs.
The events are not in the usual 5 year bands, but 35+, 50+, 60+, 70+.
The events are 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 2000 walk, 80/100/110 hurdles, 4 x 100 relays, HJ, LJ, PV, TJ, SP, HT, JT, DT. Due to time constraints the organisers (England Masters) may make other reductions. (For example, the W70 competitions will only be 100, 800, LJ and SP.)
To maximise points, athletes can compete in a lower age group to their own, but have to stay in that age group (except for relays). As ever, it is the team who can get out competitors in every event which stands the best chance of winning … so please write in to Brett (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Daphne (email@example.com) to start the discussion. Please write with your latest PBs and current training status for all the events in which you want to compete as soon as possible.
If you can’t find your red Welsh Masters vest, then these are available for £10. The club can only offer a small amount of travel expenses, with an incentive to sharing cars to save costs and the planet.
We know everyone has had little opportunity to compete this year, and English tracks have been open some time, so the club is trying to organise some “return to competition” evenings in May and June. Just as soon as we know the dates, they will be published on the website.
