WMAL 2nd Return Event - Middle Distance

Middle Distances Evening, Cwmbran 2 June 2021

We are nearly ready for our second training evening - assuming the rules have not changed again by Wednesday.

Please find attached the risk assessment we have had to provide to the facility provider: this will give you a fair idea of what we can and cannot do. You will note that no changing rooms will be available, and furthermore there will only be a limited number of toilets available.

Therefore, please arrive in kit, with your own water bottle (there will be no refreshments available), and a mask to wear, at least indoors.

On arrival, there should be free parking available in the car park. Walk round to the entrance, where you will be met by our covid officer who will tick you off her list. Only those on the list will be allowed in the arena, so please avoid bringing company if possible.

We have the track booked from 6:30 to 8:30. The evening will be led by Brett Davis, our Chairman and Men's Team Manager (not to mention British Masters 800m Champion). He has provided the following rough plan:

1st hour:

jog warmup, drills, strides and 1 or 2 200 metre stride outs

also establish distance preferences

2nd hour:

rest then

(1) an 800 metres

(2) a 1500 metres

(3) 400 metres (as many as needed)

optional which distance(s) you do.

for the 800m and the 1500m, athletes will start in groups, with the fastest starting last.

for the 400m athletes will be in lanes

There should be time to fit in a longer run (3 or 5 km?) for those who prefer that. We should be able to provide some rudimentary timing, but the main point of the evening is to meet up, have fun, and take another step towards being ready to compete. I will be there to answer questions in my capacity as a track judge.

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

regards

Rod Davies
