The first ever Indoor Field event Championships were keenly contested. The LJ, SP and TJ had fields of 18, 16 and 11 which provided the basis for a good competition. The events were age and gender mixed, and with officials at levels 4, 3, 2 and volunteers, the athletes were looked after well and duly produced some excellent performance.
The TJ was graced by our President and British record holder at five age groups [55-70] Sean Power, who produced a 8.32m performance only 19cm short of the British record. Jo Willoughby was due to attempt to break the British record at W55 TJ, she has moved up from W50 where she holds the record at 10.75; the record at W55 is 9.65. Unfortunately she suffered an minor injury in training and was not able to compete, however did help officiate along with Ian who officiated the LJ earlier in the day.
The pick of the other performances came from Derek Osborne who competed in all 5 events winning 4 Gold medals and a silver; Robin Wood 3 Gold and 1 Bronze; Dave Stokes 1 Gold and 1 Silver; Duncan Steward 2 Gold and 1 Silver and Phil Rees 3 Gold and 1 Silver. CLICK HERE FOR THE EVENT RESULTS CARDS
