Indoor Inter Area Competition - women's team This is the last call for all female athletes for the Indoor Inter-Area Competition at Lee Valley on Sunday 13 March. • William ("Bill") Davies, a successful and long serving member of Welsh Masters, sadly passed away.

William ("Bill") Davies, a successful and long serving member of Welsh Masters, sadly passed away on Sunday 13 February after a long race with illness. Apart from his medals at World and European Masters Championships, and heaps of them from the British Masters Championships, his achievements may be measured by the fact that he still holds no fewer than ten Welsh Masters records, as follows: M75 400 Indoor 78.88 M75 800 Indoor 3:08.57 M80 800 3:26.3 M80 1500 6:52.0 M80 1500 Indoor 6:54.67 M75 3000 Indoor 13:40.13 M80 3000 15:45.74 M75 5000 24:35.34 M75 10000 49:43.9 M80 10000 52:28.90 The M80 1500 Indoor mark is also the current British Masters record. All this was done with his own unique humour. He leaves three children, one of whom is our Membership Secretary. Bill's contribution to Welsh Masters is manifold.

  • Indoor Inter-Area, Sunday 13 March 2022, Lee Valley - Last Call for the Ladies Team.

Indoor Inter Area Competition - women's team This is the last call for all female athletes for the Indoor Inter-Area Competition at Lee Valley on Sunday 13 March. Daphne Marler has circulated all the female athletes, including those who have not renewed their membership, but she still has a number of vacancies for the Welsh women's team. If there are any other female Welsh athletes who want to be considered for the team, she would like to hear from them as soon as possible so they may be included (dmmarler@virginmedia.com). The Inter-Area match against the other Masters national teams and the English area teams has been fixed for 13 March 2022 and is to take place at the Indoor Lee Valley track. Brett Davis will be selecting the men’s team and Daphne Marler the women’s team. If you are not familiar with the competition, all the teams turn up each in their respective kit to battle for pride of place – and Wales has always acquitted itself well against the larger English clubs. The events are not in the usual 5 year bands, but 35+, 50+, 60+, 70+. The events are 60, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 2000 walk, 60 hurdles, 4 x 200 relays, HJ, LJ, PV, TJ, and SP. Due to time constraints there are restrictions on some events, so check the details. To maximise points, athletes can compete in a lower age group to their own, but have to stay in that age group (except for relays). As ever, it is the team who can get out competitors in every event which stands the best chance of winning … Both Brett and Daphne (brett-davis1@sky.com or dmmarler@virginmedia.com) have emailed members, but if you have not heard from one of them, please contact direct. Please write with your latest PBs and current training status for all the events in which you want to compete as soon as possible. If you can’t find your red Welsh Masters vest, then these are available for £10. The club can only offer a small amount of travel expenses, with an incentive to sharing cars to save costs and the planet.
