Indoor Inter Area Competition - women's team
This is the last call for all female athletes for the Indoor Inter-Area Competition at Lee Valley on Sunday 13 March. Daphne Marler has circulated all the female athletes, including those who have not renewed their membership, but she still has a number of vacancies for the Welsh women's team. If there are any other female Welsh athletes who want to be considered for the team, she would like to hear from them as soon as possible so they may be included (dmmarler@virginmedia.com).
The Inter-Area match against the other Masters national teams and the English area teams has been fixed for 13 March 2022 and is to take place at the Indoor Lee Valley track. Brett Davis will be selecting the men’s team and Daphne Marler the women’s team.
If you are not familiar with the competition, all the teams turn up each in their respective kit to battle for pride of place – and Wales has always acquitted itself well against the larger English clubs. The events are not in the usual 5 year bands, but 35+, 50+, 60+, 70+.
The events are 60, 200, 400, 800, 1500, 3000, 2000 walk, 60 hurdles, 4 x 200 relays, HJ, LJ, PV, TJ, and SP. Due to time constraints there are restrictions on some events, so check the details. To maximise points, athletes can compete in a lower age group to their own, but have to stay in that age group (except for relays).
As ever, it is the team who can get out competitors in every event which stands the best chance of winning … Both Brett and Daphne (brett-davis1@sky.com or dmmarler@virginmedia.com) have emailed members, but if you have not heard from one of them, please contact direct. Please write with your latest PBs and current training status for all the events in which you want to compete as soon as possible. If you can’t find your red Welsh Masters vest, then these are available for £10. The club can only offer a small amount of travel expenses, with an incentive to sharing cars to save costs and the planet.
