Good turn-out and some great results at the challenging Felinheli 10k midweek race...

Good turn-out and podium awards for the Road Runners at the challenging Felinheli 10k race...


There was a good turnout from North Wales Road Runners amongst a quality entry of about three-hundred top club and social runners at the Felinheli 10k race last Wednesday night.

Despite a very hilly and undulating course, and run mainly over rough tracks, forest trails, and some normally restricted tarmac roads, many athletes still reported personal best times on another warm and humid evening.

Adam Jones (Meirionnydd RC) was the overall race winner following a superb run with an excellent chip time of just 32 minutes and 36 seconds to additionally win his Senior Male age cat. Ifan Dafydd (Eryri Harriers) claimed 2nd spot, and second prize in the same cat as Adam in 32.50, whilst the highly talented local youngster Noa Vaughan was the 1st Junior, finishing 3rd overall in 33.39.

And one of the top GOG Triathlon athletes Simon Cole snatched a deserved 4th place and the 1st MV40 cat prize in 33.43. There were 292 finishers.

The 1st female runner was Rachel Shipley (Abergele Harriers), who fresh from her successful appearance for the North Wales Regional team, at the weekend, easily won her senior female age cat in 40.28, with Emma Alofs (Cybi Striders) claiming the female runners-up spot, and the 2nd lady prize in the same age cat as Rachel in 41.32, with Emma Collins (Denbigh Harriers), 3rd, and the 1st FV60 age cat winner in 45.30.

The NWRRC club recorded six podium places including one age cat win, four second places, and one third, with Martin Green leading a strong team of twenty-one members home in 7th place in 34.33, and he was 3rd in his MV40 age cat. He was closely followed by Jonathan Kettle, who finished 9th in 35.08, with Will Williams 21st, and 2nd place in his MV50 age cat in 38.13.

Club newcomer Tom Aindow ran well in 35th place in 40.04, with Stuart Culverhouse 45th in 41.22, and he was just three-seconds and one place ahead of Iwan Evans in 41.25. And another newcomer, William Evans finished 56th in 42.56, ahead of Ben Hudson 61st in 43.15, with Steve Roberts 81st in 44.57, and Sion Thomas was 83rd in 45.23.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson Hudson celebrated another good performance in 85th place, and she finished 2nd in her FV40 age cat in 45.37, whilst endurance and top fell runner Karl Morris claimed 97th place in 46.09, and Nicola Wylie was on top form again in 136th place, and she also finished 2nd in her MV50 cat in 49.46.

Kelly Marie Alford ran a new PB in 153rd place in 51.05, with her partner Cai Roberts finishing in 161st place in 51.36, and Hannah Griffith was 191st in 53.37. Helen Hannam was pleased to finish in 203rd place in 54.38, with Kevin Higgins claiming 212th place in 55.15.

Master veteran Mark Mason won his MV70 age cat with an excellent run in 220th place in 56.17, and fellow master Mike Hayton also enjoyed a positive run in 246th place, and he was 2nd MV70 cat in 59.53, with Vicky Taylor 262nd in 1.02.56, and Rachel Morris 272nd in 1.06.33. *This is the link to the provisional results from the Felinheli 10k race. https://www.tdleventservices.co.uk/en/results-embed.php?event=3949
